John Senex, London, 1708-1725. A New Map of the Kingdom of Hungary and of the countries, Provinces &c. Boardering thereupon with their respective Bannats, counties, Sanjiacships Mountains,Passes, Post Roads, Cities &c. as also the Places where Battels have been Fought and at what times all taken the Memorials and Plans of the best Enginiers who have served in those Countries. From "A New General Atlas". Senex was one of the leading English cartographers, appointed "Geographer" to Queen Anne. This huge map covers both Hungary and Yugoslavia, extending from the Black Sea in the east to Venice in the west. It is teeming with details of towns, topography, marshes, rivers, lakes, roads, and all the other items listedin the lengthy title. The whole is beautifully colored with soft pastel shades, giving it a decorative appearance.



I. M. Hasius, 1744; Nuremberg, Homann Heirs. "Hungarie Ampliori significatu et Veteris Methodicae Complexae..." This handsome map was based on the work of noted German cartographer I.M. Haius. It has a French subtitle, though the text of the map itself is in Latin. The details shows the boundaries of the component kingdoms: Hungary proper, Croatia, Dalmatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Cumania, the principality of Transylvania, et al., each in a different color.Many city names are underlined in an old hand, which shows that this map was not just a decorative item, but one used by our ancestors. A delightful view of Central Europe in the mid-eighteen century.
