1609 Mercaptor Map of Walachia

As a smaller popular version of Gerard Mercator's great folio atlas, "Atlas Minor" was published in several different editions by engravers in th eearly 1600'. This map of Walachia comes from a 1906 edition by Jodocus Hondius, the famous Dutch cartographer. Walachia is the region around the lower Danube River, along which historically, many invading armies travelled out of or into Europe. Romania is actually named but not correctly placed for the modern nation !!! It is placed South of the Danube River in present day Bulgaria! This original map has an attractive cartouche. Desi orasul Buzau nu apare in aceast harta din 1906, totusi o mentionez pentru ca apare orasul Rimnic (Rebnik).
