Jerry's Baobabs in Florida

8-26-01. It is unbelievable how much the rubrostipa has grown in three months. It started out as a 12 inch leafless twig and now it is huge! I had trimmed all the lower leaves off to speed up the growth on top, but it still has plenty of foliage. The plants you sent are doing very well. The one with the large leaves (Adansonia digitata) has grown several inches already, but yesterday we had a really bad thunderstorm with about 30 mph winds and I hadn't noticed that the trunk of this plant had bent till it was level with the ground. Today after work I looked at my plants and noticed its horizontal trunk and the last two inches of the plant was pointing straight up in the air! I held the plant up and staked it now the top two inches points 90 degrees. Im curious to see if the trunk will have a zigzag in it. As for the Australian species Adansonia gregorii, I would love to have one. Jerry Bojanowski.
Update 9-7-01 : The part of the digitata that was bent had turned back up immediately the next day, but a couple days later the top two inches turned black and died. I clipped off the dead part and it looks like it is sprouting more branches. The rubrostipa's new green growth has stopped but it looks like the trunk and branches are getting fatter now.
